Rules

These are the rules of the classroom.
Make sure you adhere to them.
In addition, this is a HOL classroom, so all HOL rules apply.

EMAIL:
When you turn in assignments, the subject of your email should be formatted thusly:

  • Parseltongue – HW# – HOLID
  • Parseltongue – EC# – HOLID
  • Parseltongue – Term Project – HOLID
  • Parseltongue – Final – HOLID

Make sure you send your HW and EC in separately!

Similarly, if you need an extension, the subject should read:

  • Extension – HOLID

Extension requests should be sent in BEFORE the assignment’s due date, or 5 points will still be deducted from any HW sent in after its due date.

In the body of your email you MUST include the following information:

  • Your full HOL name.
  • Your HOLID.

No assignment will be accepted without this information!

Send your homework/extension requests to:  homework@parseltongue101.com

POINTS:
This is a one-term class.
As such, there will be four lessons, a term project, and a final exam.
Each lesson will offer an assignment, and some extra credit for good measure.

The term project will be an individual thought assignment with no wrong answers.

The final exam will test you on everything you have learned thus far in the lessons, including what you may have learned from your classmates or on your own during our discussion sessions.

Assignments, Extra Credit, the Term Project, and the Final Exam will all be worth up to 30 points each. This gives each student the ability to earn up to 300 points total.

QUILLS:
At least 2 assignments and the final exam must be turned in to pass. At least 150 points must be earned over the course of the class to earn a quill. The Extra Credit and Term Project assignments will help you reach that total if you lose points during the assignments or Final Exam.

AWARDS:
Serpentine Student – To everyone who turns in all the assignments.
(Homework, Extra Credit, Term Project, Final)

Wily Wordsmith – To the top 5 Term Projects.

Reptile Researcher – To those who discovered at least 3 words during class.

LATE/EARLY WORK:
Any late assignments will still be accepted, but 5 points will be deducted unless you had contacted me previously for an extention. However, I will not accept any assignments past the day of the Final Exam due date.

You can turn assignments in early if you wish to work ahead. But keep in mind that participating in the discussions is part of your grade, so you still have to be around during that month to get your full points.

Points will not be awarded for most assignments until you have done the discussions, to avoid having to submit points twice. If you have not done the discussion section by the end of the month, but have turned in the rest, you will get the points for what you have turned in at that time, and it will be assumed you opted out of the discussion portions of that homework.

Also, Lesson 4 is based on the class contributions/discussions from the rest of the term, so it’s impossible to do that lesson in advance.
